WhoSampled Is Taking Music Recognition To A Whole New Level

The app WhoSampled just released an update that can make anybody a music historian. It now features helpful new technology that can completely digest a song’s samples, remixes and cover history.

You’ve heard of apps such as Shazam and SoundHound, but have you ever had an app that can pick apart any song you hear? With WhoSampled, instead of just telling you what a song you heard out in public was, you can now see wherever it appears on the music map.

The updated version of the app lets users see what songs their favorite artists sampled. Users can also dive into infinite remixes and covers and then download the original on other streaming apps, such as Spotify.

Unlike any other music recognition app, WhoSampled algorithmically breaks down a song’s origin. Additionally, the app leads you to new songs that sample your original pick.

“We had always dreamed of adding these features from the moment we launched the app six years ago,” CEO Nadav Poraz says. “You can identify the song playing around you, then dig deeper and find out what other song was sampled in the song you’re hearing.”

With this advancement, WhoSampled’s goal is to send users down a rabbit hole and discover new artists.

“The app is personalized to your taste and automatically surfaces the connections for the music you already love,” Poraz says. “It’s another strong starting point to discover more music to enjoy.”

The WhoSampled app will cost $3.99 for the iPhone and be ad-free, while the Android version will be free but ad-supported. The app also comes with a $9.99 annual subscription.
